What is the Murrysville Comprehensive Plan?
The Murrysville Comprehensive Plan is being completed to update the existing plan that promotes the goals of the community, preserves sensitive areas, attracts office development, and encourages residential development meeting the needs of young families and senior residents who wish to reside in the community. The update also provides a foundation for the community’s proactive decision making as well as meet the requirements of the Pennsylvania Municipalities Planning Code.
The Municipality of Murrysville’s Comprehensive Plan update is using an authentic and factually based process to engage the community and to develop a series of realistic yet ground-breaking recommendations with a focus on implementation. A core element of project success will be facilitating a participatory, meaningful and inspiring public engagement process. Inclusive of elected officials, administrative staff and active residents and business owners, the public engagement process is being organized based on issues and focused on defining community objectives, brain-storming possible strategies and prioritizing actions. The Comprehensive Plan’s philosophy is grounded on the following:
Factually Based
Informed decisions based on factual data and analyses lead to an understanding of issues and the building of consensus towards possible solutions.
Outreach
Immersing elected officials, planning representatives, municipal staff members, consultants and the public in the various aspects and places of the community allows key insights to be garnered.
Objectivity on Issues
Maintaining an objective perspective is critical to understanding what the issues really are and presenting information to the public. In order to be objective, one must ask questions, listen to those speaking, sift through facts and seek alternative approaches to resolving problems.
Authentic
The truly creative side of comprehensive planning is visioning or place-making. Visions are being carefully balanced to solve technical problems, respond to market realities, elevate civic quality, promote sustainability and celebrate cultural heritage.
Participatory
Vital to the success of any project is the effective communication of information and ideas, and the building of consensus among the project’s participants.
Implementation
A wide variety of recommendations will allow the community to call on its residents, businesses and other stakeholders to come together and work independently for effective implementation of the comprehensive plan.
